Growing up Hip Hop: Sex, Drugs and Mental Health

Have you ever thought about how music can influence your behavior?  Suicide and Depression?  Who can we talk to?  Well the Growing up Hip Hop: Sex, Drugs and Mental Health with Dr. Khaalisha Ajala helped our girls to discuss how these issues that our teens face and see in the hip hop and pop community play a role in the societal issues that we see today.  The day was filled with great discussions about the importance of exercise and self care as well as the medical issues that Hip Hop and Pop artist deal with; such as STDs, physical abuse, drug use and plastic surgery.  There were many lessons learned and takeaways from this workshop:  we must love ourselves and know that we are beautifully and wonderfully made!!
